Tokyo (Agenzia Fides) - Japanese families with one or more children are only 11 million 400 thousand, 22.6% of the total population, the lowest percentage ever recorded in Japan which highlights the country's advanced stage of aging. According to figures published recently by the Japanese government, based on the last census of 2014, families with elderly people are actually higher than those with at least one child and they represent more than 12 million, 24.1%, a record figure. In 2014 births registered in Japan were 1,001,000, about 29 thousand less than the previous year, a new low for the Asian country. At the same time, the number of people who died in the course of 2014 amounted to 1 million and 270,000 throughout the year, about a thousand deaths more compared to 2013. These data show that Japan's population, currently about 126 million people, fell last year to about 268,000 units. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 08/07/2015)
