ASIA/BANGLADESH - The Bishops: the encyclical Laudato Si’ is important for the faithful and for the country

Tuesday, 7 July 2015

Dhaka (Agenzia Fides) - The encyclical Laudato Si’ is important for the faithful and for the whole of Bangladesh: with this conviction the Bishops of Bangladesh have promoted the circulation of the text in parishes, communities, associations, urging the faithful to pay attention to 'Pope Francis’ appeal to "change lifestyles" as expressed in the encyclical.
His Exc. Mgr. Patrick D'Rozario, Archbishop of Dhaka, president of the Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh, has published a special pastoral letter in Bengali language that illustrates and summarizes the main contents of the Pope’s text. The Bishops want it to be the object of reflection and application. Besides urging Catholics to follow the guidelines set out in the Pope's encyclical, Archbishop D'Rozario asks all priests to be active promoters of the Pope's teachings.
As reported to Fides, also the Director of Caritas Bangladesh, Benedict D'Rozario, issued a public statement, inviting the faithful to "stop behaviors and practices that damage environment and the creation of God", and turn one's attention to the care for nature, judicious and sustainable use of water, energy and fuels. Caritas Bangladesh has already initiated several projects for the care and protection of environment and for the help of the communities excluded from development. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 07/07/2015)
