Friday, 3 July 2015

Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - The President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, met with several Bishops who have offered their support to national dialogue, as was announced by the Government House in a statement sent to Fides. The same bulletin of the Government House specified that the auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa, His Exc. Mgr. Juan José Pineda, has called on all sectors of society to join in the dialogue by accepting the invitation of President Hernández.
The Catholic Church, according to what Mgr. Pineda told reporters, who is Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Honduran Bishops' Conference, also offered to provide moderators for dialogue, to ensure greater democracy and transparency. The Latin American country is going through a difficult period especially due to two serious problems: violence and corruption.
Mgr. Pineda stressed that "dialogue is an important thing, all have to participate because it is the only way to clarify disagreements or differences".
In a pastoral letter the Episcopal Conference of Honduras yesterday, July 2, stressed its support to tens of thousands of demonstrators who protested against corruption, and propose "dialogue for social peace", "for a better Honduras". (CE) (Agenzia Fides 03/07/2015)
