AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - Mgr. Romero Romero is recognized as "Son Meritísimo of El Salvador"

San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) - The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, acknowledged Blessed Son Oscar Arnulfo Romero as Meritísimo of that country, for his work in defense of human rights and their pastoral work.
The ceremony was attended by the brothers of the Blessed, Gaspar and Tiberius, who received the recognition, and the representatives of the Catholic Church, including the auxiliary Bishop of the capital, His Exc. Mgr. Gregorio Rosa Chavez and Mgr. Ricardo Urioste who presides the Romero Foundation.
The Bishop martyr, known as the "voice of the voiceless", was killed by a sniper on March 24, 1980 while celebrating Mass in the chapel of a small hospital for terminally ill cancer patients. After 35 years his martyrdom was recognized because killed in odium fidei. Romero was beatified on May 23 in a crowded ceremony in the Salvadoran capital. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 27/06/2015)
