Thursday, 25 June 2015

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - The Secretaries of the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, respectively Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and Jose Antonio Meade, along with other officials and representatives of state institutions, met yesterday, 24 June, in private, with some Bishops of the various pastoral Commissions of the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM), and the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Christophe Pierre.
The meeting had already been announced a week ago by the Secretary of CEM, His Exc. Mgr. Eugenio Andrés Lira Rugarcía, Auxiliary of Puebla de los Ángeles, who also informed about the theme of the meeting: the phenomenon of migration.
After the meeting, CEM issued a brief statement, also sent to Fides, where it is reported that "officials highlighted that migration in Mexico is in a phase of great changes, and the policy of the Government of the Republic focuses on protection and respect of human rights".
The text of CEM continues: "A decision was taken to establish a mechanism for regular monitoring of the government of Mexico and the Bishops' Conference, to jointly review the programs and protocols for migrants, as well as training programs for immigration officials. The aim is to take joint initiatives to strengthen the participation of citizens, including the private sector, to assist Mexicans who return to their country, in order to ensure their full integration, and continue monitoring the actions that need to meet the challenges such as human trafficking and the migration of unaccompanied minors".
