AFRICA/CHAD - Chadian aircraft raid in Nigeria against Boko Haram in retaliation to the attacks of N'Djamena

Thursday, 18 June 2015

N'Djamena (Agenzia Fides) - The Chadian air force today, June 18, hit six bases of Boko Haram in Nigerian territory. This was announced by the General Staff of the armed forces of Chad, adding that air strikes have caused major losses in the ranks of the Islamist group and serious material damage.
The action of the government in N'Djamena is a retaliation for the two simultaneous attacks attributed to Boko Haram, committed on June 15. In the attacks against a police school and a police station 33 people died and a hundred were injured.
The Chadian government has reinforced security measures: in the immediacy of the attack phone lines were cut off and women were forbidden to wear the burqa (the full veil) to prevent terrorists to pass themselves off as women.
Chad is actively engaged in opposing Boko Haram with troops sent in Nigeria and Cameroon, where the Islamist sect has committed several assaults in border villages. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 18/06/2015)
