AFRICA/MADAGASCAR - No to impeachment against the President; one is moving towards the formation of a new government

Tuesday, 16 June 2015

Antananarivo (Agenzia Fides) - "The deputies are holding meetings to find a way out of the institutional crisis when, on June 13, the High Court rejected the motion of impeachment of President Hery Rajaonarimampianina, which was passed on May 26 by Parliament" (see Fides 27/05/2015) says to Agenzia Fides Fr. Luca Treglia, Director of Radio Don Bosco in Madagascar.
"The impression we have is that an agreement will be found in order not to reach early elections. The President, however, does not have a majority in Parliament", says Fr. Luca. "What could happen is that those who voted for impeachment may vote a new Prime Minister. In practice, the High Court states that there is a majority in Parliament that can express a vote for a new Prime Minister, who will have to work with the President".
"The population is experiencing the crisis with some concern because it does not want to sink into a new crisis like the previous one, which lasted from 2009 to 2014, which is still having a serious impact on social life", concluded Fr. Luca. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 16/06/2015)
