The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has accepted (12 June 2003) the renunciation of the pastoral government of the diocese of Manokwari-Sorong (Indonesia) presented by Bishop Francis Xavier Sudartana Hadisumatra, O. Carm., in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, canon 401,2.
The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has appointed (12 June 2003) Bishop of Manokwari-Sorong (Indonesia) Reverend Father Datus Hilarion Lega, of the clergy of Ruteng (Flores) director of Caritas Indonesia. The Bishop elect Reverend Father Datus Hilarion Lega, was born in Kupang on 21 October 1956 to devout Christian parents, originally from Flores. He studied in Indonesia and in Scotland, obtaining a Masters in Social Science. He was ordained a priest on 15 June 1984. He has since been: chaplain, parish priest, executive secretary of the Bishops’ Commission for social-economic development, head of Caritas Indonesia. (Fides Service 30/6/2003 EM lines 7 Words: 97)
