AMERICA/ANTILLES - Resignation of the Bishop of Hamilton in Bermuda, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 13 June 2015 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda (Antilles), by His Exc. Mgr. Robert Joseph Kurtz, C.R., in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Fr. Wiesław Spiewak, C.R., Provincial Superior of the Resurrectionists in Poland as Bishop of Hamilton in Bermuda (Antilles).
Fr. Wiesław Spiewak, C.R., was born on October 19, 1963 in Krakow, Poland. On 15 September 1984 he professed his first vows with the PP. Resurrectionists. He later carried out his philosophical formation at the Vincentian Institute of Krakow, and his theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He earned a Master in Theology at the Pontifical Institute of Krakow, and also completed his studies for a Licentiate in Spiritual Theology at the PP. Salesians in Rome. After his perpetual vows he was ordained a priest on 19 May 1990.
Since ordination he has served the following pastoral roles: 1990-1992: Vice-Rector of the Minor Seminary of Resurrectionists in Poznan, Poland; 1992-1995: Director of Pastoral Vocation and Secretary of the Provincial Superior in Warsaw and Krakow; 1996-1997: Director of Pastoral Vocation and Head of the Vocational Emmaus Center, in Mszana Gorna; 1997-2005: Several roles at the General House in Rome; 1998-2014: General Postulator of the Congregation of the Resurrection; 1998-2003: Parish priest of Santa Maria Maddalena in Capranica Prenestina; 2003-2009: Several roles at the General House in Rome; since 2010: Provincial Superior in Poland and Member of the Episcopal Commission for Migrants.
