AMERICA/MEXICO - The Bishops invite the winners of the elections to fulfil the promises made

Thursday, 11 June 2015

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - "We have chosen to participate, now what do we have to do?"; with this title, the Episcopal Conference of Mexico issued a statement, also sent to Agenzia Fides, to motivate public opinion and politicians to commit themselves to the country after the elections held last Sunday (see Fides 08/06/2015).
"What will happen now? We would like conflicts to be resolved through institutional channels. We would like those who have won to fulfil their election promises and are ready to listen and serve society, especially the most needy. And we citizens are protagonists, who work, watch and ask the authorities legitimately elected to carry out their work for the good of all and not just for a few", the statement said.
The voice of the Church has been present in particular in recent months in support of the people in the country's political life, which is why the text ends with these words: "Like many others, the Bishops of Mexico are pleased that society has favored the democratic path as the way to build a more just Mexico, reconciled and at peace, where true progress is possible for all. Let us continue to participate in the strengthening of the family, education, labor, social and cultural institutions, promoting respect for life, dignity, the rights and duties of all the people".
