Wednesday, 10 June 2015

Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "Stop immediately this senseless war that is bringing immense suffering to the South Sudanese people". This is the urgent appeal of the new South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC).
The appeal, which follows that of May 26 (see Fides 27/05/2015), was launched from Kigali, capital of Rwanda, where 25 leaders and representatives of the SSCC met from 1 to 7 June. In their final declaration, the participants reiterated their commitment to "achieve peace and reconciliation for our beloved nation".
Southern Sudanese Christian leaders also said that they were inspired "by the spirit of love and forgiveness that we found in our brothers and sisters in Rwanda" after the serious crimes in 1994.
South Sudanese Churches have also organized two days of prayer and fasting for peace, one was held yesterday, June 9, and the other is scheduled for July 9. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 10/06/2015)
