AMERICA/CUBA - Pastoral Plan for the Church in Cuba: "a dynamic, open and missionary communion"

Tuesday, 2 June 2015

Havana (Agenzia Fides) - "We hope that this pastoral plan is for all, a path of the pilgrim Church, in faith and hope which does not disappoint; for this we propose a simple spiritual journey": this is how the Pastoral Plan of the Catholic Church in Cuba opens, entitled" Por el camino de Emaus", just published, news of which was sent to Agenzia Fides.
In the introduction it urges "Evangelizers and evangelized" to carry out this path "in steps, not leaps", in serenity and joy. Four steps are proposed: the first step, open to all, as baptized, is the invitation to live the conversion to Jesus Christ and his Word each day. Step two: everyone, as a disciple, has to proclaim the joy of the Gospel as Good News of salvation. Step Three: the testimony of love and hope in our communities and families, is an expression of communion and participation in the Church's missionary. Step four: bring to all men and women of our Country the tenderness and mercy of God the Father.
The document of the Cuban Bishops' Conference includes: an introduction and a conclusion, the first chapter dedicated to the analysis of reality (social, political, economic, demographic, international, religious ...), the second of a biblical-theological nature following the footsteps of the travelers of Emmaus with the risen Lord, then the third chapter presents a set of operational guidelines.
Among the proposals "to make our communities authentic centers of faith", the document suggests: Promoting initial and ongoing formation of priests as operators of communion, participation and responsibility. Have a clear model of community that we want to have and create in Cuba.
To promote the creation and consolidation of pastoral advice in parishes and communities. Engage and support the laity, especially those who can exercise the various lay ministries at the service of community life and missionary work. To work so that the parish is a community of communities, communities of small communities and mission houses, community groups and movements. Encourage in every diocese a dynamic, open and missionary community. Sensitize everyone on their duty to support the life of the Church and her mission of evangelization. Promote experiences of collaboration, ecumenism and religious dialogue with other Churches. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 02/06/2015)
