San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) - In El Salvador, a country plagued by gang violence, the numbers of murders are manipulated in order to create a climate of ungovernability. This is what auxiliary Bishop of San Salvador, His Exc. Mgr. Gregorio Rosa Chávez denounced yesterday, May 31, and in his usual press conference after Sunday Mass, said: "There are evil mechanisms in El Salvador, through which statistics can be manipulated". Without mentioning those responsible for manipulating the murders, Mgr. Rosa Chavez said that "at times some are interested in creating this climate of total ungovernability, of total chaos, even at the cost of human lives", says the statement sent to Fides.
The day before, May 30, President Sanchez Ceren said that 200 criminal groups have been dismantled, he also acknowledged that there has been no citizen security for many decades in the country. The Bishop commented the reports circulating in the media: "May recorded 594 murders, that is to say, it was the most violent month since the end of civil war in 1992". A few months before there was talk of an average of 21 murders a day. El Salvador, after Honduras, is still considered one of the most violent countries of America. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 01/06/2015)
