AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Missionary dimension and social problems: meeting of the clergy of Patagonia

Bariloche (Agenzia Fides) - The missionary dimension of the Church, vocations, the bicentenary of the independence of Argentina and the possible visit of Pope Francis in the Country, were the topics of the VI Meeting of the Clergy of Patagonia, which took place from May 5 to 7 in Bariloche. The meeting, which takes place every three years, was attended by over 120 participants including Bishops, priests and deacons.
Importance was given on the reflection regarding the missionary dimension of the Church, in the light of the "Evangelii Gaudium", Apostolic Exhortation considering the reality of Patagonia.
17 dioceses of Argentina were present at the meeting and the last day of work was dedicated to an exchange of experiences on the pastoral work in the diocese of Patagonia.
Among the challenges the Church in this area has to face, according to information sent to Fides, is the crisis of vocations, the problem of drug abuse and unemployment. The meeting ended Yesterday evening, May 7th, with a Mass celebrated in the Cathedral of Bariloche which was also attended by a large number of faithful. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 08/05/2015)
