Antananarivo (Agenzia Fides) - Water and sanitation on the island off the coast of Africa: this is the appeal launched by Catholic Mission Australia. Currently in Madagascar half the population has no access to safe drinking water and every year more than 4,000 children die from preventable diseases. The National Director of Catholic Mission, Martin Teulan, in a note sent to Agenzia Fides, said that the situation is surreal. "As a parent, I am upset that in Madagascar the lack of water and proper sanitation facilities, which we take for granted, cause the death of thousands of children" he said. The objective of the campaign is to support local missionaries thus enable them to help the children of Madagascar. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 29/04/2015)
