AFRICA - Only one African child out of 5 suffering from malaria receives efficient treatment

Friday, 24 April 2015

Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - Tomorrow, April 25, World Malaria Day will be celebrated. Unfortunately, the phenomenon is still widespread and from the latest reports from the World Health Organization, it appears that only one African child out of 5 suffering from malaria receives proper care, despite the fact that three-quarters of the deaths caused by the disease are among minors. In addition, 15 million pregnant women do not receive even a dose of preventive medications recommended and about 278 million people in Africa still live in homes without mosquito nets. Each year half a million people die and WHO urges early diagnosis for all suspected cases. It has also developed a new global strategy against the pandemic for the period 2016-2030, that will be examined by World Health Organization in May, which aims to reduce the impact of malaria by 40% in 2020, as well as eliminating it in at least 35 Countries by 2030.
