EUROPE/SPAIN - The Bishops in assembly: Mission, emigration and social crisis

Tuesday, 21 April 2015

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – The XCV Plenary Assembly of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) will be held from April 20 to 24. There will be a special day: Friday 24, the Bishops will go on pilgrimage to Avila, on the occasion of the fifth centenary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus.
The Archbishop of Valladolid and President of CEE, Cardinal Ricardo Blazquez Perez, opened the assembly with a keynote speech, and His Exc. Mgr. Renzo Fratini, apostolic Nuncio in Spain, brought his greetings to the participants. Among the main points of Cardinal Ricardo Blazquez’ speech, we can highlight: the Year of Consecrated Life and the fifth Centenary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus; the task of the mission today: the "missionary transformation" of churches, parishes and communities is being experienced in Spain; the social situation: "this social and economic crisis are leading to an anthropological, ethic and religious crisis"; the persecution of Christians; the tragedy of immigration; the reasons for hope.
