AMERICA - Almost 4 million children in Latin America do not have access to primary school

Santiago de Chile (Agenzia Fides) - More than 50% of the Latin American Countries and the Caribbean have managed to have access to primary education, although unfortunately there are still nearly 4 million children who do not attend school, especially in Paraguay and Guyana. This is what a recent study released by UNESCO reports. Furthermore, with the exception of Brazil and Guatemala, over 20% of those who start studying then drop out of school. In Latin American Countries illiteracy is still a social problem, with 33 million people in these conditions, of whom 55% are women. Bolivia, Peru and Suriname are the Countries that in recent years have made most progress. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 16/04/2015)
