ASIA - The world's humanitarian crises cause direct effects in the field of health care

Wednesday, 8 April 2015

Manila (Agenzia Fides) - Because of humanitarian crises worldwide, thousands of people have been left without health care. Natural disasters, wars or situations of extreme poverty have led to devastating consequences. This is the case of the Philippines, seriously affected by Typhoon Yolanda, which completely destroyed villages and towns on the coast, killing 6,300 people and about 4 million homeless. Despite rapid and multiple interventions at international and local level, the health care of the population has continued to face serious consequences. In Syria, the bloody civil war has produced a demotion of 35 years in terms of development, especially in key areas such as economy, education and health. The latter has deteriorated dramatically, with a great river pollution and the destruction of infrastructure. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 08/04/2015)
