AMERICA/ARGENTINA - "Can one sing the Alleluia in the world we live in?"

Santiago (Agenzia Fides) - "Can one sing the Alleluia in the world we live in? Can we rejoice in Argentina today and in the reality we live in Santiago? Often we experience the same desolation of the disciples at the tomb. How much pain do those who love our Argentina feel and many times they see it divided, wounded and without a future, with many signs of corruption and death". This is what the Bishop of Santiago del Estero, His Exc. Mgr. Vicente Bokalic said in his message for Easter, sent to Fides, also signed by his Auxiliary, His Exc. Mgr. Ariel Torrado Mosconi, entitled "Church of Santiago, prophesy over these dry bones" (cf. Ez 37).
The prophet Ezekiel, in his vision of a valley full of dry bones, entirely abandons himself, with confidence, to the Lord, and "when he announced the Word in the valley of death, everything changed and transformed. That dry desert began to fill itself with life". "We, like the prophet - continues the message - must not complain as if all has been lost, but we have to proclaim the Word in a new missionary springtime".
The message recalls the richness of popular piety and local religious traditions: "Here in the north of Argentina, where we were born as a country and where the first evangelization penetrated, we treasure the values and the rich culture that we must convey to our country. It is urgent to feel a new missionary zeal that renews us as Church. The mission entrusted to us by the risen Christ makes all things new".
Therefore the Bishop points out: "Easter reminds us that we are equal in dignity and leads us to discover the similarities that unite us and that are much stronger than the differences that separate us ... Easter leads us to commit ourselves concretely to work as citizens especially in search for unity and the common good, to fight for justice especially for the most disadvantaged in our society. May the pilgrim Church in Santiago commit itself with those who suffer threats to life and faith". (SL) (Agenzia Fides 08/04/2015)
