ASIA/PAKISTAN - 28 Christians are indicted for the lynching of Lahore

Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - The Anti Terrorism Court in Lahore has indicted 28 Christians accused of the brutal killing of two Muslims after the attacks on the churches in Youhanabad, on March 15, and for the ensuing riots. The Court confirmed the arrest for 16 accused of murder and 12 for damage to state property. The measure comes after about 15 days of investigations carried out by the police. The other suspects were released.
Meanwhile the conditions of the injured (over 90 people) in the attacks remain critical. "We urgently need to ensure health care, material and psychological assistance to the injured people after the attacks on the churches in Youhanabad" is the appeal sent to Fides by the NGO "Voice of Christians International" (VOCI) and "Bright Future Society", today present at Lahore General Hospital, where 25 people, victims of the attacks have been hospitalized. The two NGOs are accompanying the victims and their families after the tragedy on 15 March. "There are also women and children among the victims of this brutal episode" says Samuel Payara, Director of the NGO VOCI to Fides. "We urgently need to provide material and psychological assistance, as well as food for 25 people. The victims are in very critical condition.
