Monday, 23 March 2015

Tripoli (Agenzia Fides) - "The situation in Tripoli is quite calm. We do not know yet how long the calm will last", report local sources to Agenzia Fides from the capital of Libya.
The government of Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni, recognized by the international community, has given orders to his troops to conquer Tripoli. On March 21 the aircraft of the Airforce in Tobruk hit some military facilities on the outskirts of Tripoli.
The offensive ordered by al-Thinni has been severely criticized by Bernardino Leon, the UN Special Envoy for Libya, who is mediating in Morocco between the different Libyan components in view of the formation of a national unity government. The international community is pushing for a rapid agreement between the two governments in Libya, in order to face the threat represented by the affiliated Libyan Islamic State, which have conquered Sirte, the hometown of the late dictator Gaddafi.
