Thursday, 5 March 2015

Karachi (Agenzia Fides) - "Jesus Christ died for us so that we could live. Evil is defeated and God's love triumphs. Even today, here in Pakistan": This is what His Exc. Mgr. Joseph Coutts, Archbishop of Karachi said in a meeting on Lent held recently at the Catechetical Centre in Karachi, in St. Patrick's Cathedral. As Fides learns, the seminar organized by the Catechetical Centre, has become a fixed appointment and saw a large participation of the faithful.
Archbishop Coutts reiterated that "Lent is a favorable moment to examine our relationship with God, as we prepare ourselves for Easter", recalling that "even in culture and contemporary society, the love of God exists and is present, despite evil".
Archbishop Emeritus, Evarist Pinto, who attended the seminar, said that "the purpose of Lent is the renewal of the baptismal promises. All our Lenten activities should move us towards this goal: to prepare ourselves to reject Satan, all his works and all his empty promises; to carry out a profound act of faith in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit".
"Through this meeting, we are invited to recognize much more intensely God's great mercy and love", concluded Fr. Arthur Charles, Director of the Catechetical Centre. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 05/03/2015)
