Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On October 3, 2014, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Fr. Joseph Benedict Mathias, Jesuit (SJ) as Rector of the "St. Peter the Apostle" Pontifical Seminary in Bangalore (India).
The new Rector was born on April 16, 1947 and was ordained a priest on 11 May 1974. He studied philosophy and theology in his hometown, then studied canon law and psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was a professor at several universities, rector, community superior, founder and director of the Institute for formators in Bangalore. From 2004 he was Director of the National Vocation Service Centre (NVSC) in Pune and Secretary for the clergy and religious office of the Bishops' Conference. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 04/03/2015)
