AMERICA/HONDURAS - There are 6000 teachers: one million children do not go to school

Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - In Honduras, the State has decided that teachers who retire should not be replaced. Therefore more than one million children remain uneducated. The tendency is to close schools in the towns and villages where there are no teachers and move students to from one institution to another, making access to education more difficult.
According to the Vice President of the Collegio Professionale Unione Magistrale in Honduras (COLPSUMAH), at a national level, it is a great loss of opportunity for many students who remain marginalized with the risk of being involved in criminal gangs. In Honduras, the Catholic Church runs 77 kindergartens, 43 primary schools and 49 secondary schools. The population exceeds 8 million inhabitants. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 03/03/2015)
