Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - In 2013 about 2 million 500 thousand working children, between 5 and 17 years of age were registered in Mexico. They represent 8% of the total child population in this age group. Seven out of 10 live in places with less than 100 thousand inhabitants, 22% are subject to the economic conditions of the family, and 23% suffer constraints in order to study. This is the outcome of the findings in the latest report prepared by the Network for the Rights of Children in Mexico (Redim) that highlights structural problems regarding the welfare and economic development of boys, girls and adolescents. The conditions of poverty and inequality of Mexican children force thousands of children to work, 15% of them work more than 48 hours per week and 40% do not receive any financial remuneration. The data shows that 36% of working children do not attend school, and 61% work and study.
9 out of 10 minors who work as domestic servants, are girls or teenagers. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 27/02/2015)
