AFRICA/ EQUATORIAL GUINEA - New rector appointed for inter-diocesan major seminary “La Purisima” in Bata

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, has appointed, 30 October 2004, Rector of the inter-diocesan major seminary “La Purisima” in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, Rev. Pablo Nze Obiang, of the diocesan clergy of Ebebiyin.
The new Rector was born at Milong-Limite, district of Anisok, 28 April 1965, and he was ordained a priest on 7 December 1996. After attending Banapà minor seminary in Malabo (1985-1989), he studied theology and philosophy at La Laguna College, Tenerife, Spain affiliated to the Theology Faculty of Northern Spain in Burgos (1989-1993). From 1993 to 1995 he studied for a degree in theology at St Cyprian school of theology in Yaounde, Cameroon, affiliated to the Teresianum in Rome. From 2001 to 2003 he studied for a licentiate in philosophy at the Pontifical University of Salamanca. From 1996 to 2001 he was spiritual Director of “La Purisima” inter-diocesan major seminary at Bata, while teaching Latin, Greek and Liturgy. From 1996 to 1999 he was parish priest at “La Purisima” parish in Nkolombong. In 2000 he was appointed parish priest of St Peter Claver at Nsork-Nsomo. Presently he teaches philosophy at the seminary and at the Celestino Nang Institute, he is prefect of cultural activities at the major seminary and parish priest of St Joseph’s parish Alum, diocese of Bata.
