AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - The UN: over 2.5 million people face food emergency because of the civil war

Juba (Agenzia Fides) - Two and a half million people in South Sudan are in urgent need of food, desire peace and are tired of living in fear. This is what Valerie Amos, UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs stated during a press conference in Juba. According to Catholic Radio Network, the UN High Representative, after meeting the displaced, aid workers and government officials, reported to the press the concerns of the displaced persons who fear that the warring parties intend to recruit their children.
UN Undersecretary for Humanitarian Affairs has launched an appeal for $ 1.8 billion to help more than 4 million people affected by the civil war in southern Sudan, which broke out in December 2013, and over 2.5 million people face food emergency because of the civil war.
