ASIA/LEBANON - Maronite Archbishop Matar: Lebanon must adopt a strategy to distance itself from regional conflicts

Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - Lebanon must adopt a strategy to distance itself from regional conflicts. This is the alarm launched by Maronite Archbishop Boulos Matar Youssef during his homily yesterday, Monday, February 9, on the occasion of Mar Maroun holiday amid a presidential vacuum.
In his homily, the Maronite Archbishop of Beirut asks how can Lebanon’s fate be tied to other fates in the Middle East, whatever the reason, adding it was a “mistake” linking the presidential election with resolving other countries’ conflicts.
"It is not in the benefit of the region and the world to link the fate of Lebanon with what happens in other countries", reiterated Mgr. Matar, using critical expressions towards the national political class that is shirking its responsibilities and seems to want to "freeze" the Lebanese political scene until the storms in other countries calm down.
