AFRICA/KENYA - "No increase in fees for high schools" says the Church

Friday, 6 February 2015

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - The Catholic Church in Kenya is concerned about the high cost of fees concerning different high schools. "No teenager should be banned from public school for not having paid school fees", said in a statement sent to Agenzia Fides His Exc. Mgr. Maurice Anthony Crowley, Bishop of Kitale and Vice President of the Commission for Education and religious education of the Episcopal Conference of Kenya.
Mgr. Crowley stresses that it is the duty of the government to make available scholarships in all schools in the Country, and that these funds are intended for poor children.
The sharp increase in school fees has led to protests from parents in Nairobi. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 06/02/2015)
