ASIA/LEBANON - Maronite League: a UN resolution against the attacks on religions is needed

Thursday, 15 January 2015

Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - The Governing Council of the Maronite League met on Wednesday, January 14 and condemned what happened in France last week as an "attack on human rights and human dignity, which is in contradiction with Islam and its teachings". The authors of the attacks – says a statement issued by the Maronite League and sent to Agenzia Fides - were "led by blind fanaticism".
"Freedom of thought and belief - the statement reads - must be guaranteed, provided that it does not lead to the demolition of the fundamental values of humanity". In this regard, the Maronite League urges that "a UN resolution to prevent attacks on religions, in order to preserve world peace" is to be formulated and approved. The Maronite League is an organization born in the 1970s to support the identity and the Maronite presence in Lebanon and the world. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 15/01/2015)
