Dakar (Agenzia Fides) - "The true peace that we await is an act of courage that commits both sides to lay down their arms to speak in truth and draw the outlines of a final and lasting peace, based on a written and signed commitment" said his Exc. Mgr. Paul Abel Mamba, Bishop of Ziguinchor, regional capital of Senegal's Casamance, where since 1982 an armed movement claimed its independence from Dakar.
In his speech on the occasion his new year’s wishes to the Governor of the region, sent to Agenzia Fides, Mgr. Mamba hopes that Casamance becomes "the priority of priorities" of national politics in 2015.
Noting that there has been a truce in the region for two years, the Bishop urged to reach a final agreement. According to Mgr. Mamba, Casamance is currently in a situation "neither of peace nor war and the peace process is blocked". To relaunch it the Bishop urged all "to abandon selfish calculations and reject sectarian division and clan rivalries". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 12/01/2015)
