AMERICA/COLOMBIA - For Mgr. Falla Robles: "The unilateral cease-fire should take place without any conditions"

Thursday, 18 December 2014

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - "The unilateral cease-fire should take place without conditions", said the Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, His Exc. Mgr José Daniel Falla Robles, Auxiliary of Cali, upon hearing the announcement by the group of FARC guerrillas regarding a unilateral ceasefire, starting from 20 December.
"It must be a unilateral cease-fire in every sense of the word, that is, without posing any conditions to the government, since the State must continue to work to defend the sovereignty of the nation" highlighted the Bishop, according to information sent to Agenzia Fides. "If FARC are committed to this, it is necessary that this is accompanied with the end of seizures, illicit crop growing and other things like that, so the government is not forced to take action against them", said the Archbishop.
Mgr. Falla Robles stated that this action indicates the seriousness with which the FARC armed group is taking the peace process with the government. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 18/12/2014)
