Wednesday, 17 December 2014

San Jose (Agenzia Fides) - In order to decrease the number of Costa Ricans who suffer from hunger (about 400,000 according to the report by FAO), the Foundation Caritas Costa Rica promotes a fundraiser through the campaign "Un granito de café para el Bien social" (A coffee bean for social well-being). The President of Caritas Costa Rica, His Exc. Mgr. Angel San Casimiro Fernández, Bishop of Alajuela, during the presentation of the Campaign, on December 15, highlighted that the idea is to combat hunger, in particular by helping poor families.
"No one can imagine how many people are suffering from hunger in the XXI century. It is hard to believe that these people have to look for food in garbage bins", reiterated Mgr. San Casimiro Fernández.
The Campaign, says the note sent to Fides by Caritas Costa Rica provides that for every pound of coffee sold, manufacturers donate 200 colones (0:42 dollars) for the purchase of food for needy families. The campaign is part of a global initiative proposed by Caritas International in October 2014 to fight hunger in the world with concrete actions in every country. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 17/12/2014)
