ASIA/IRAQ - Caritas Iraq intensifies aid for 6 thousand refugee families in Dohuk

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

Dohuk (Agenzia Fides) - The team of Caritas Iraq working in the region of Dohuk, in Iraqi Kurdistan, has launched the support program that provides for the distribution of aid and the provision of assistance to 6 thousand refugee families scattered in different areas. In the coming weeks, the pace of humanitarian initiatives of Caritas for refugees in the region will be intensified. This is what Dr. Imad Noel Noam, vice-director of the local Caritas refers to the Iraqi website ankawa.com. The aid is destined to the displaced Muslims, Christians and Yazidis, who have fled from Mosul and the Nineveh Plain, which have fallen under the control of the Islamic State jihazidi. The program provides for the distribution of subsistence goods - food, clothes, stoves – for at least one hundred families every day, and the organization of recreational programs for children. In the first phase - explain the leaders of Caritas - the time spent in collecting lists of those who need aid and the lack of coordination with government and international agencies, slowed the launch of the aid program. But now the distribution of food and the material is at operating speed, in places and times established. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 17/12/2014)
