Wednesday, 10 December 2014

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - The Mexican Bishops expressed their condolences to Ezequiel Mora, father of Alexander, one of 43 missing students in Ayotzinapa, whose remains have been identified by experts (see Fides 10/11/2014). The Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM), in the note sent to Agenzia Fides, informs that on the afternoon of December 9, His Exc. Mgr. Carlos Garfias Merlos, Archbishop of Acapulco, and His Exc. Mgr. Eugenio Lira Rugarcía, Auxiliary Bishop of Puebla and Secretary general of CEM, "expressed their condolences over the phone, on behalf of all the Bishops, for the cruel and reprehensible murder of his son Alexander".
Meanwhile, tension in the country continues unabated. The Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, Archbishop Christophe Pierre, after presiding over the ordination of four priests in the Cathedral of Culiacán, Sinaloa, on December 8, answered questions from journalists. The note sent to Fides reports his statements: "The country is experiencing difficult times, perhaps a crisis of confidence in society, in the authorities, there are many doubts. However there are priests and faithful who are looking for solutions, in order not to fall into pessimism".
Mgr. Christophe Pierre mentioned the creation of a new commission of attention for justice, peace and reconciliation in the country, because "protesting without proposing anything is sterile". Then said: "I like to see that the Catholic Church is part of society, expresses its solidarity with those who suffer, but must also feel the responsibility to find solutions to offer a way out".
