ASIA/HONG KONG - Show everyone “the joy of consecrated life”, use Facebook to foster vocations

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Demonstrate the joy of religious consecrated life, because its source is Christ and His Gospel, and use Facebook to attract young people to consider a religious life: with this proposal Hong Kong Catholic diocese marked the beginning of the Year for Consecrated Life, on November 30. According to information collected by Fides, the solemn Mass was presided by the Catholic Bishop of Hong Kong, Cardinal John Tong Hon, at Christ the King parish. Present some 500 men and women religious involved in pastoral service throughout Hong Kong. Two auxiliary Bishops, Stephen Lee Bun-san and Joseph Ha Chi-sing, OFM also took part.
In charge of Diocesan events for the Year of Consecrated Life, Bishop Ha Chi-sing underlined three fundamental aspects: on-going formation and renewal for religious; gratitude for their service given to the church; encouragement to young people to consider a life of religious consecration. Cardinal Tong, in a Pastoral Letter for this special year, “thanked the generous service and dedication of so many religious men and women who in 170 years of sacrifice, service and fidelity helped build up the diocese to what it is today”. He also urged individual Catholics and parish communities to strive, during this special year to deepen the faith, promote vocations and give new impulse to evangelisation.
According to information supplied by the diocese, Hong Kong has 300 men religious in 14 institutes and 500 women religious in 28 institutes. The diocese has 237 priest religious. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 2014/12/06)
