Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - An assessment of the project that the missionary Church of Brazil is carrying out in Haiti, emerged immediately after the earthquake that devastated the country (see Fides 21/02/2011), was made during the meeting held last end week, which was attended by representatives of the Conference of Religious of Brazil (CRB), the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB), and the superiors of the congregations that have sent missionaries to Haiti.
According to the note sent to Fides by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Brazil, Sister Mary Ines Vieira, president of CRB, pointed out the goal of the meeting was: to assess the missionary project in Haiti, highlight the progress and expectations for the future. This was the first step of a general assessment, because, she said, it is important to also listen to the superiors who are on site.
Sister Sirley da Cunha, missionary of Jesus Crucified, superior of the province of Campinas (State of Sao Paulo), said: "This meeting was an asset, because it helped me clarify the mission in Haiti and to raise awareness of the missionary work and mission of the nuns". Sister Maria Goretti, of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God, informed that a sister graduated in medicine, Sister Marlene Aparecida was sent to Haiti. "For us it is a joy to work with people living in that situation of pain, especially after the earthquake - said the religious woman -.
We know that there are so many needs and sending a nun with this specific formation can also help in the health field. We however, have the support and prayer of all the congregations". (CE) (Agenzia Fides 02/12/2014)
