Tuesday, 2 December 2014

Soddo (Agenzia Fides) - A cooperation project led to the restructuring and the provision of school materials regarding the first public school which opened in Wolayta (the southern area of Ethiopia) in 1953. The institute is located exactly in Soddo city center, and currently welcomes 4000 children including 74 with physical and mental disabilities. It consists mostly of very poor children. To address the high rate of unemployment, the terrible poverty affecting the inhabitants of the region, and to limit the construction of buildings within the land, the University of Valencia, Spain, in collaboration with the Ligaba Beneye school and the Board of Soddo, are engaged in making some improvements for the benefit of students. Walls will be used as an educational space to write the letters of the alphabet in Amharic and English, the classification of chemical elements or the basic structure of the human heart, in addition to the preparation of sports facilities. The school currently consists of 32 classrooms with 75 teachers for children between 7 and 18 years of age. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 02/12/2014)
