Monday, 1 December 2014

Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - Damaturu, capital of Yobe State, in northern Nigeria, was assaulted in the early morning hours today, December 1, by a commando of Boko Haram. According to the testimony of some of the inhabitants of the city reached over the telephone by news agencies, the assault began at dawn, when a large number of armed men attacked a police station before heading uptown. The situation remains chaotic in Damaturu with gunfire and explosions in the streets, while fighter planes fly over the city.
After the attack on the mosque in Kano, during the Friday prayer, November 28 (see Fides 29/11/2014), between Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, Boko Haram attacked different parts of northern Nigeria. According to the Nigerian press, the villages attacked are Shani in the Borno State, bordering that of Adamawa (these two States together with that of Yobe are those where in 2013 a state of emergency was declared) and Lassa (Borno), where fire was set to several houses and some churches. In this last assault at least 6 people lost their lives. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 01/12/2014)
