Friday, 10 December 2004

Seoul (Fides Service) - In a message for National Caritas Day in Korea, 12 December, Bishop Lazzaro You Heung-sik, coadjutor Bishop of Daejeon, President of the Bishops’ Caritas Commission told Catholics that for every Christian sharing is a moral obligation not merely an option..
In the message “To God through love of neighbour ”, the Bishop called on Catholics to embrace the logic of sharing. “Sharing with others graces and gifts received from God is not only an option it is a precise duty for every Christian” he said.
In the Message, a copy of which was sent to Fides the Bishop told Catholics that: “Sharing is an opportunity, a grace to rediscover the very nature of God written in out hearts (…) When we put into practice love for the poor and the needy, we share with neighbours the love received from God”.
“Helping the needy is a visible act of conversion and penance” he said and encouraged the faithful: “If you cannot reach poor people, take part in works of charity organised by your parish community or church movements, because by working together we can do better”.
By way of conclusion he said “love for God leads to love for others and this in turn nourishes and increases love for God”, underlining that love calls for love “loving neighbour is the surest way to draw near to God”. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 10/12/2004 Righe: 23 Parole: 228)
