AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Hunger and chronic malnutrition cause the death of a child every 33 hours

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - Death caused by hunger and chronic malnutrition, which affects children under five years of age, is a real scourge for the Country. In the course of 2014, 240 young children have died. According to the report a child dies every 33 hours, 5 a week. The types of malnutrition defined by the Institute are two: hunger and chronic malnutrition. The first is the cause of death when a person has no food for 5 or 6 days. While, in the case of chronic malnutrition, which already appears at 6 months of age, most of the children die of pneumonia or diarrhea. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 27/11/2014)
