AMERICA/BRAZIL - There are now 500 thousand signatures which have been collected for the Democratic Political Reform

Monday, 24 November 2014

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The draft law of popular initiative, "Projeto de Lei de Iniciativa Popular pela Reforma Política Democrática", prepared by the Coalition for the Democratic Political Reform and transparent elections, needs one and a half million signatures by February 2015 to be presented to Congress. One of the main objectives of the initiative is to undertake a profound political reform, prohibiting the funding of election campaigns by companies.
As Adital informs in the note sent to Agenzia Fides, 500 thousand signatures have already been collected. The Coalition has launched the "Democratic Political Reform", that involves three stages: in November and December meetings in major cities of the country; in January and February 2015, the campaign to collect signatures and a seminar in Rio de Janeiro; a weeks celebration for the political Reform and the delivery of signatures to Congress, in Brasilia.
The Catholic Church is committed to supporting political education of the community (see Fides 20/11/2014) and the first member of the Coalition for political and democratic Reform is the Brazilian Bishops' Conference. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 24/11/2014)
