Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - The latest data collected by the NGO Amnesty International, updated to 2012, confirm that it is difficult to know exactly how many children are currently being forced across the world to take part in armed conflicts. Millions, however, are target of criminal gangs who exploit them as soldiers. Estimates show that recruitment occurs in at least 19 countries, including Colombia. It is a common practice, which is usual in the midst of so many conflicts, wars and violence. These children are kidnapped in the streets or schools. Many others are forced to leave their respective homes threatened with guns in front of the parents who are helpless. On the other hand, children bring additional benefits and services to the armed gangs, they obey without protest and are easily replaced. The girls are forced into sexual abuse by adults.
