AFRICA/TANZANIA - Appointment of Auxiliary Bishop of Arusha

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On November 11, 2014 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Prosper Balthazar Lyimo, Chancellor and Judicial Vicar of Arusha as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Arusha (Tanzania), assigning him the titular see of Vanariona.
The Bishop-elect was born on August 20, 1964 in Kyou-Kilema in the Diocese of Moshi. After his primary school studies in Maua and at the NgurdotoPrimary School in Arusha, he completed his secondary school studies at the minor Seminary in Arusha. He studied Philosophy in Our Lady of Angels Major Seminary in Kibosho, Moshi, and theology at St. Paul's Interdiocesan Seminary in Kipalapala, Tabora. Since his ordination, on July 4, 1997, he has held the following positions: 1997-1999: Formator in the minor Seminary in Arusha; 2000-2004: Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Arusha; 2004-2007: Studies in Rome for a Licentiate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, with residence at the Pontifical College of St. Peter; 2007-2008: Chancellor in Arusha; 2008-2011: Studies in Canada for a doctorate in canon law at St. Paul's University (Ottawa); since 2011: Chancellor and Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Arusha.
