AMERICA/MEXICO - Ecumenical Initiative: 43 hours of fasting and prayer for the 43 students of Ayotzinapa

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - 43 hours of prayer and fasting for 43 students who disappeared in Ayotzinapa (see Fides 10/10/2014) ends today, November 6. The "Ecumenical Day of solidarity" with the families of the missing students takes place in Mexico City and began on November 4, organized by various groups and organizations, including the Human Rights Center Fray Francisco de Vitoria, the Ecumenical Studies Centre (CEE), the Association of Defenders of Migrants and Refugees (CODEMIRE), the Chaplains of the Theology Community of Mexico, the Conference of Religious Superiors of Mexico (CIRM), the Institute of Theological Formation of Mexico (IFTIM), Churches for peace, the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity, the Ecclesial Observatory and advisory Service and Peace (SERAPAZ).
Everyone wanted to share with families, students and groups, the indignation of this and other events that led to the murder and disappearance of thousands of people in Mexico. "The initiative - according to the statement sent to Agenzia Fides - is a way to feed our hope against apathy, fear, death and impunity". "We join the various social movements that emerge for their civil commitment for peace and human rights, in particular towards disadvantaged people", the statement concluded.
