AFRICA/TANZANIA - The Pope appoints Coadjutor Bishop of Tunduru-Masasi

Vatican City (Fides Service) - On 7 December 2004, the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Tunduru-Masasi (Tanzania), Reverend Castor Paul Msemwa, of the clergy of Njombe diocese, Spiritual Director to the nuns at St. Gertrude Benedictine Convent at Imiliwaha.
The Bishop elect was born in the village of Kitulira, parish of Matola, diocese of Njombe, 13 February 1955. After elementary school at Motola, and secondary school at seminaries at Mafinga and Likonde, he entered St. Augustin major seminary at Peramiho (Songea), to study philosophy and theology (1981/1987). He was ordained a priest on 7 June 1987 for the diocese of Njombe. He has since been: assistant priest and parish youth leader in a parish in Njombe; teacher and spiritual director at St. Augustin major seminary; Student at the Teresianum Pontifical College for Spirituality in Rome where he obtained a Licentiate in 1996. Since 1996 he has been spiritual director for the nuns at S. Gertrude Benedictine Convent at Imiliwaha. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 7/12/2004; Righe 12; Parole 157)
