AMERICA/ECUADOR - Local Church starts construction of Good Samaritan Home for AIDS sufferers

Rome (Fides Service) - Archbishop Antonio Arregui of Guayaquil presided a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for a new hospital unit which will be known as the Good Samaritan Home at Sabanilla, Pedro Carbo, for people suffering from HIV/AIDS.
The Home is being built by the local Church through the Archdiocese of Guayaquil in collaboration with the Sorrowful Mother Foundation of the local Javier College.
The Home is being built on land donated by the Public Works Ministry. It will cost about 2 million US dollars and should be ready in the Spring of the coming year.
The patients will be treated with low cost drugs financed by international agencies. Besides treatment AIDS sufferers, the hospital will offer general and specialised medical care for the people of surrounding rural communities. (AP) (7/12/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:16; Parole:152)
