ASIA/JORDAN - An Armenian baptismal church consecrated on the banks of the Jordan

Wednesday, 29 October 2014

Amman (Agenzia Fides) – At the end of October, the new St. Garabed Armenian Church will be consecrated in Jordan, on the bank of the Jordan River. This was announced by the Armenian Apostolic Patriarchate of Jerusalem, in a statement sent to Agenzia Fides. The land on which the church stands, not far from the place traditionally referred to as the site of Jesus' baptism - reports the patriarchal statement - was donated by King Abdullah II of Jordan, as was the case of other churches built on the bank of the Jordan. On Thursday, October 30th the paintings of the church will be blessed - which was built following the typical architectural canons of the Armenian places of worship - and the baptismal font will be consecrated. The next day, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, Nourhan Manougian, will preside at the celebration of the liturgy of consecration, where King Abdullah and other membersof the royal family have been invited.
