Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - "World Mission Day was an opportunity to make Jesus known to non-Christians and make Catholics aware of their missionary vocation and evangelising mission of the Church": this was stated by the diocesan in charge of the formation of catechists of the diocese of Nan Chong, in Si Chuan province. After a period of formation, on World Mission Sunday catechists and volunteers were divided into 7 groups and reached as many public places, where they dedicated themselves to volunteer work, arousing the curiosity of the people. Responding to their questions of who they were and why they were doing this, they were able to give a living witness of their faith.
Other initiatives characterized the celebration of World Mission Day in various communities. According to information sent to Fides Agency, on the eve of World Mission Day, in the Cathedral of the diocese of Wen Zhou the sacraments of Christian initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, First holy Communion) were administered to 32 catechumens, who were then invited to immediately take charge of their missionary commitment.
In the Diocese of Tai Zhou, in Zhe Jiang province, also on the eve of World Mission Day, a priest was ordained, pointing out that the mission of evangelization continues since the time of Jesus until today. Mgr. Xiao Ze Jiang, Bishop of Gui Zhou, consecrated the new church of the parish of Hong Hua Gang in Zun Yi, dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, with the participation of over a thousand faithful.
The pastor of the parish of Jiu Jiang in the province of Jiang Xi encouraged the faithful "to proclaim the Gospel to their neighbors with the example of their lives, so that they can feel the love of God". After explaining the meaning of Mission Day during Mass on 19 October, the pastor also promoted the collection of offerings for the work of evangelization. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 29/10/2014)
